Growth requires the right environment.
Plants need vital nutrients to grow and flourish. If they are kept in someone’s home, we, as humans, are creating the environment for them.
Much like caring for a house plant, I am creating an environment for and, in this case, with you.
Plants need light, water, and vital nutrients to thrive. As a plant guide, you search for clues about what they need while also noticing when to step back and let them grow.
Once we identify what nourishment you need, I can step back, watch, and encourage you as the growth begins.
The way we work depends on your specific needs.
When we work together, we will meet online weekly or biweekly. During that time, you will talk, and I will observe, adding nutrients for you to grow along the way.
We might practice some grounding exercises during the session or work on slowing down your breathing. I may ask if you get sun or drink more water, much like a beautiful Monstera.
These sound simple, but they are the foundation for mental health and overall wellness.
Then, we dig deeper.
Building these foundations will allow you to examine more deeply the problematic thoughts or repetitive behaviors you want to change.
You will learn to read your cues and listen to your needs before acting. This will help you see the people around you and your world through a new lens.
You will be confident in your ability to grow and thrive in your environment.
About Jeigh Hayes, LPC-OR, LPC-CT, LMHC-RI
Plants have helped me become a better therapist.
I genuinely started learning how to care for plants during the pandemic. They bring me a sense of calm and grounding. From them, I have learned to slow down and observe what they need before moving forward, much like in therapy sessions.
As we work together, you may find that I am looking away at some point while you are speaking. I have noticed that some people need space and time to express themselves fully, and I work hard to give you all the space you need to grow.
I want to hear you completely and nurture you in a way you may not have experienced. I am also working to see you fully and looking for places where you lack nutrients vital to living a whole life.
Education and Training
My graduate work was at the University of Hartford, focusing on clinical practices.
For the last eight years of my private practice, I have trained in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Accelerated Resolution Therapy. I have also taken many courses focused on perinatal mental health through Postpartum Support International, Postpartum Stress Center, and Seleni.
From the Accelerated Resolution Therapy website is this explanation:
Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is a unique approach to psychotherapy. ART is unique because the ART Therapist guides the client to replace the negative images in the mind that cause symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress with positive images of the client’s choosing. And, this is done quickly, most often within one session! Once the negative images have been replaced by positive ones, the triggers will be gone.
ART is also unique in that it combines the enormous power of eye movements to allow voluntary changes in the client’s mind with well-established therapies like Gestalt, Psychodynamic Therapy, and Guided Imagery. Within the ART protocol, eye movements, along with other ART enhancements, make these therapies work much faster and more effectively.
